It's that time of year again- time to lift a glass, dry an eye and take a moment to reflect on the personal bests of '10. As a disclaimer, these rankings are purely subjective and if for some reason one of our shared highlights didn't make the cut- well, start your own blog.
1. Mr. B- Huge catch-all here. From the minute we met the guy (and his cries of sheer terror at strange looking caucasian parentals) to his big hold-you hugs, to yogurt-faced kisses it's all been better than we could have imagined. He's one-of-a kind, and has brought so much life to our family.
2. Number 2 is #2. But tied with number 1 in our hearts. I guess it goes to show you never know. Yeah, finding out Kimi is P-G, was just fantastic. (Pic Above) I'll always remember getting the good news during the Chiefs-Niners game... (due date is July 4th).
3. The growth of our other family- The Hoffice Crew. Several key new additions to the Switch fam have really brought a lot to the table, as a team we've grown a ton, and as a viable business. Certainly feels like we're playing in the big-kid game now. Our upcoming office move might just be the most fun thing yet.
4. American Royal Weekend- Part of me still feels like I am recovering from it. Fender-benders, and low 'que scores can't ruin it for me- and Z too. I love this weekend for everything it is KC, and everyone who rallies around us. B became the Ambassador of 'Que and quality time with friends over smoke and cold ones can't be replaced. Also, it's time to thank my loving wife who allows me to create such wonderful smokey chaos.
*I'm taking a judging class before next year's AR. I want to know how they rig it.
5. Ethiopia- Our time there was something out of a dream, and yet I know that's not the reality of the country. We were able to sample some of the finest hospitality, best-of local traditions and meals, and grow in our appreciation of the wonderful people. Coffee has never quite tasted the same after this trip.
6. Switch Concerts- We held one this summer in 103 degree heat, and one with 200+ people. They've turned into all the fun a business tax write-off can handle, plus they're for a good cause. We love these nights, totally worth the babysitter $.
7. Kid Birthday Parties- Yeah, pencil these in as major players in our social calendars. But with that said I've created/worn a pretty sweet Astro-Boy suit for Hayden's B-day and most recently got to wear a legit Brobee costume for B's #2. It's my best chance to relieve the Penguin glory days, and I love it. I guess I'm the weird dad.
8. Z's Sticking Around- Uncle Zgeee has planted some deeper Dallas roots and we're really excited about that. For more than just the free-babysitting...
9. Finally Chiefs Sundays are Back- Not like there was anything to cheer for on Saturday. While I'm far from the new Arrowhead, I was able to enjoy Sunday again watching some and listening to most of the games because it actually meant something. B can do a great "TouchDown!" Mitch-style, and "CHHHHHIIEEEEFFSSSSSS" with little prompting. It's just nice to be respectable again (that, and watch the Cowboys burn). Just being honest this year.
10. Christmas Morning- It's back. Little boy light up the room with his harmonica tunes, and red union-suit. We're still coming down from that day.
*Honorable mention: Sev's business trip to Big D, Frat guy dinner, Turkey Day in the Tent, Hawaii (the plane ride with B bumped this down), Wisconsin Summer Trip, and Pancake Saturday Mornings.
Happy 2011 to all!
